Breaking News: Louisiana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Agent Tyler Wheeler Shot During Traffic Stop
Louisiana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife (LDFW) Senior Agent Wheeler, age 25, was shot multiple times during a traffic stop in Morehead Parish about 2:00 AM Saturday morning. The traffic stop occurred in the southbound lane of Hwy. 165 between Sterlington and Bastrop in the Perryville area, according to KNOE. Another LDFW agent was close by, responded to check on Senior Agent Wheeler and found him lying on the ground. The second Agent called for help, gave Agent Wheeler medical aid until paramedics could arrive, and secured the scene.
LDFW Senior Agent Wheeler was flown to LSU Health Shreveport Trauma Center about two hours after he was shot. The extent of his injuries and his condition are unknown at this time. A manhunt is underway for the suspect who shot Senior Agent Wheeler. No further information on the suspect has been released at this time. The Louisiana State Police are in charge of the investigation which is ongoing. They are being assisted by the LDFW Enforcement Division.
Senior Agent Wheeler has been employed by the Louisiana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife for two and one-half years. He is married and has one child.
