Widow Of Assassinated Baton Rouge Officer Matthew Gerald Is Pregnant

Dechia Gerald, the wife of assassinated hero Baton Rouge Police Officer Matthew Gerald, has announced that she is pregnant. She believes that she conceived five days before Officer Gerald’s death.

“I just wanted to let the world know about our gift that Matt left behind when he left us,” Dechia Gerald told WAFB. “We’re expecting.”

Officer Matthew Gerald was killed in July during a terrorist attack on law enforcement. A terrorist who believed the false rhetoric of Black Lives Matter launched an ambush attack on police. The attack was retaliation for perceived racism in law enforcement. Three officers in Baton Rouge were murdered, including Officer Gerald, and two more were shot. Deputy Nick Tullier is one of the law enforcement officers who was shot, and he is still fighting for his life.

Officer Matthew Gerald was survived by his wife and two daughters, 9-year-old Dawclyn and 3-year-old Fynleigh,

Dechia said that while she was trying to pick out clothes for her husband’s funeral service, Dawclyn told her that she was pregnant.

“She said, ‘Mommy, I don’t know why you’re complaining.’ She said, ‘Because you’re pregnant,’ and I said, ‘Girl hush, don’t say that kind of stuff’,” Dechia Gerald said. A few days later, Deichia was bathing Fynleigh when she, “told me the same thing. However this time, she told me that Jesus told her that there was a baby boy in my tummy.”

At that time, Dechia Gerald still didn’t know that she was pregnant. A week later she took a home pregnancy test and discovered that she was pregnant.

“For the most part, it’s a blessing. I mean obviously he left us a very special gift behind, but at the same time, all those days that I get overwhelmed, I ask how am I going to do this by myself without him,” Dechia said.

The baby is due April 7, 2017.
