VIDEO: Neighbors Complain About Giant Slip ‘N Slide – Don’t Get The Police Response They Wanted
Called to the scene on a complaint of a road being blocked, these police officers found a different solution to the problem.
Police Join In Slip ‘N Slide Fun
Asheville, North Carolina – Police received a complaint about a giant 50-foot homemade Slip ‘N Slide blocking the road. Instead of dismantling it when the police officers arrived, they joined in the fun, according to CBS News. (Video below after story)
Asheville Police Officers Joe Jones and Carrie Lee assured people at the neighborhood block party they weren’t there to end the party.
“Don’t worry, we’re not here to break up your fun,” Lee told about 50 residents, according to CBS News. “We received a call about the road being blocked — so here we are.”
The police officers determined that the homemade water slide wasn’t blocking the road and that emergency vehicles could pass on the right hand side.
But before she left, Officer Lee asked if they could join in the fun.
“Grab me one of those plastic Glad bags,” Officer Lee said.
The residents got the officer a plastic bag and Officer Lee went down the slide.
“We for sure did not expect that,” Asheville resident Katlen Joyce Smith told CBS News. “She went first in the plastic bag — and joked, ‘This is going to make such a good body-cam video.'”
Soon, her partner Officer Jones, who is 6-foot-6, followed.
“I thought I was going to be able to get out of it. She went down a trash bag and I’m too big to go down a trash bag,” Officer Jones said, according to CBS News. “But then the kids pulled out this big raft and then I had no choice.”
Officer Jones went down the slide on a double inner tube with a young boy.
“The kids were squealing. Everyone was screaming,” Smith said. “We just couldn’t believe it. We were all laughing hysterically.”
The police said the neighborhood came together to build their own homemade water slide, which included a lot of dish soap.
The Asheville Police Department posted a video of the police officers reaction to their response on the police Twitter account.
