San Jose Police Shoot Naked Man On Video

San Jose, CA – A naked man who had been chasing children and behaving erratically on Friday led San Jose Police Officers on a lengthy, violent chase before he was shot by officers on video.

According to The Mercury News,  the incident occurred just before 2:00 PM. It began in the area of Eva Court and ended on Stevens Creek Boulevard in front of the Villa Shopping Center east of Lawrence Expressway.

A resident of a home in the area of Eva Court said that she and her daughter were chased by a naked man shortly after they got to their driveway.  They ran to a nearby park and another resident called police.

Upon arrival, San Jose Officers approached the man, who was not identified, as he got into a blue truck and fled, intentionally ramming a patrol car and hitting at least one other vehicle while he was escaping.  Witnesses said that at least one officer fired at the truck and that one of the truck’s tires was blown out.

Officers pursued the man, who refused to stop.  About four miles later at the shopping center, the suspect’s vehicle became disabled from the previous crashes and rolled into a parking lot.  San Jose police officers attempted to take the man into custody.

The man refused to comply with directions given by the officers and appeared to have a gun which he pointed at officers  He revved the engine and appeared to be trying to move the truck.  Multiple Officers fired at the man and he was shot at least once.  He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and remains in critical condition.

Sergeant Enrique Garcia of the San Jose Police Department said that “we don’t know at this point what happened, what caused the suspect to act the way he was acting.”

The three Officers who opened fire on the suspect have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.  The investigation is being conducted by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the San Jose Police Department’s homicide unit.  No one else was injured.
