It Took Responders Hours To Free Him From Tree

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – A man who claims he was intimidated by people involved in a “ugly” real estate deal was found nailed to a tree by a city worker. (Video below)

Police released video of the May incident where Jose Duran was found in the woods with both hands nailed to a tree, according to KRQE TV News 13.

In the video, a city worker asked Duran, “Is there anybody in the area that can still hurt you?”

“Two guys,” Duran tells the worker. “Two guys tried to kill me.”

At first, Duran refused to tell the city worker his name or what had happened. He was still conscious and breathing.

“He kept yelling, ‘Help. Help,’ and so I came and I saw him and I kind of freaked out because I didn’t know if there was any other guys around,” the city worker told police.

The city worker called police. More than a dozen police and firefighters were called to the scene and worked for hours to rescue Duran.

Duran later told his story to KRQE News 13 days later and even returned to the scene. He claimed the men were strangers who took him by gunpoint and led him out into the woods. They then nailed him to the tree. He also claimed the two men were sent that to threaten and scare him because of his involvement in an ugly real estate deal. Duran had documents he said that backed up his story.

“I’m scared because… nobody believes me,” Duran told the TV station in May.

No arrests in the case have been made. Police said they didn’t suspect this was payback for a crime or cartel-related, KRQE reported. An online court search shows Duran does not have a criminal record, but he did have a long-running court battle over a real estate issue.
