Rookie Police Officer Freddy Jimenez Saves Man’s Life In Dramatic Rescue
Trenton, New Jersey – The Trenton Police Department released a dramatic rescue performed by one of their officers who saved a distraught man from falling out of an eighth-floor apartment building window Sept. 17. (Video below)
The officer’s body camera recorded the man dangling from the window in the high-rise apartment. Police said Officer Freddy Jimenez was at the apartment because the man’s wife had just died of natural causes, according to NJ.com.
The grieving man went to another room and climbed out the window and was hanging by his fingertips. The apartments don’t have balconies.
The video shows that when Officer Jimenez entered the room, the only part of the man that was visible was his knuckles. The man can be heard saying to himself, “Do it. Do it. Do it.”
Officer Jimenez grabbed the man and called for more officers to arrive to help. Then Officer Jimenez tried to talk the man out of taking his own life.
“Sir! Please don’t! Sir! Hang on!” Officer Jimenez said. “I am here to help you! Please!”
The man then asked Officer Jimenez to grab his leg and repeatedly said, “I don’t want to die.”
“I don’t want you to die,” Officer Jimenez said back to the man. “I got you. I got your leg.”
Officer Jimenez than pulled the man back inside the apartment. While the man was on the floor, Officer Jimenez asked him, “What are you doing that for, sir? What are you doing?”
While the distraught man was safely back inside, Officer Jimenez radioed in to the dispatch to tell them he was able to get the man back inside. On the video, the sirens of the police coming to help can be heard.
