Donald Trump Says Owners Will Eventually ‘Fire’ Anthem Protesters

Huntsville, Alabama – President Donald Trump said he’d love to see an NFL owner yank players protesting the national anthem off the field and say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now!’”

Trump made his comments in Alabama at a campaign rally for US Sen. Luther Strange, a Republican.

“We’re proud of our country, we respect our flag,” Trump said at the rally, according to the New York Post. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when someone disrespects our flag to say, `Get that son of a bitch off the field right now! Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!’”

Trump then moved around the stage with his arms extended while supporters chanted, “USA, USA, USA!”

Trump predicted an NFL owner would eventually stand up to the NFL protesters.

“You know some owner’s going to do that,” Trump said. “He’s going to say, `That guy who disrespects our flag, he’s fired!’”

Trump urged fans to leave the stadium if they witness a NFL player not standing for the national anthem.

“The only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s just one player, leave the stadium,” Trump said, according to ESPN. “I guarantee things will stop. Things will stop. Just pick up and leave. Pick up and leave. Not the same game anymore, anyway.”

Reaction was mixed on social media.

“For 8 years we had a President who hated America and everything it stood for. Thank God we have a President who loves our country,” wrote a Brian Tortorelli on the ESPN Facebook page.

“It would be nice to see all the black players walk off the field and see how the racists enjoy their Caucasian football,” wrote a Derek Pilon on ESPN’s Facebook page.

Other critics of President Trump said he used stronger language describing peaceful NFL protesters than the Charlottesville white supremacists.
