Armed And Armored Kidnapper Makes Final Mistake After Shooting At St. Louis County Police On I-55
Jefferson County, MO – A kidnapper wearing body armor had his rampage ended after he opened fire on St. Louis County police officers Monday morning.
The incident started around 9 AM when the suspect, Jerrod Kershaw, drove off of the road at I-155 and I-270. Good Samaritans stopped to help the man, and they discovered that he was wearing body armor and armed with a shotgun and pistol, according to St. Louis County spokesman Shawn Mcguire.
Kershaw then attempted to kidnap one of the good Samaritans and steal their car, but he couldn’t figure out how to operate a stick shift. The suspect then attempted to kidnap another victim and he was successful in taking their vehicle, which he used to flee the scene.
While this was going on, the suspect’s mother called police to notify them that her son said that he was going to kill a family member and then kill himself.
Kershaw’s place of business then called in to report that he had made homicidal and suicidal threats there.
St. Louis County Police found the suspect vehicle driving on I-55 and began to pursue it. The pursuit ended when the officer deployed spike strips.
Jerrod Kershaw then exited his vehicle, while wearing body armor and armed with his guns, and opened fire on officers. The officers returned fire, turning him into a human sprinkler.
After the suspect went down, it wasn’t known if he was still leaking, so Jefferson County SWAT was called in with a tactical vehicle to check his blood pressure, which turned out to be 0.
“This individual forced police officers to make a decision in which they had no other choice and no other alternative but to return fire,” Sheriff David Marshak said. “I think it was his intent to finish off his day this way.”
No officers were injured in the incident.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
