Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander Shot In Gunfight With Wanted Killer, Michael Vance
Dewey County, Oklahoma – Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander was shot Sunday night in a gun battle with the wanted killer Michael Vance. Vance had shot two other officers one week prior and had on on the run ever since.
At around 9:30 PM on Sunday night, the Sheriff of Dewey County, Clay Sander, attempted to stop the vehicle that Michael Vance was in. A gun battle ensued and the Sheriff was shot during the fight. After shooting this hero, Michael Vance fled and was able to evade capture for several hours.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol located Vance and pursued him for around 30 minutes before another gun battle broke out. The trooper was able to take Vance down in the exchange of gunfire. Michael Vance was killed in the gunfight and the hero trooper was uninjured.
Michael Vance has been wanted since he murdered two people by shooting them and then repeatedly stabbing them in an apparent attempt to cut their heads off. While Vance was fleeing from that crime, he shot tow responding police officers and then got away. Those officers reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
After fleeing, Michael Vance shot somebody else during a carjacking. Vance had been on the run ever since.
It’s not clear what weapon Vance used to shoot Sheriff Sander, but he had reportedly been armed with an AK-47 during last week’s gun battle with law enforcement.
Sheriff Clay Sander is expected to survive his injuries. If the sheriff was hit by an AK-47 round, there’s no telling how much damage may have been done. Our thoughts and prayers are with this hero and his family in his recovery.
Our sources tell us that this isn’t the first time that Sheriff Sander has been shot in the line of duty. While some sheriffs spend all day pushing paper in administrative roles, this hero was still out on the road trying to catch a killer.
To all of the heroes involved in the successful apprehension of this killer, great job.
