Pennsylvania State Trooper Landon Weaver was shot and killed on Friday evening, according to a report from WTAJ-TV. The shooting occurred during an incident near Hesston PA. There is a massive manhunt underway at this time for the shooter, identified as 32 year old Jason Robison. The nearby Altoona Police issued a statement via Facebook:

“We here at the Altoona Police Department would like to ask everyone to Keep the Pennsylvania State Police in their thoughts and prayers. They are in the midst of a very serious situation in Huntington County and there are not very many details available at the current time. We hope this situation is contained soon and that all of our brothers and sisters come home safe.”

This has been a particularly deadly year for law enforcement. Today’s fallen hero will be the 136th death in the line of duty; the 65th by gunfire, up nearly 60% from 2015 and the most in five years. Although the situation as to the shooting of this trooper has yet to be revealed, it should be noted that there has also been a significant increase in ambush-style killings of officers.

By July of 2016, ambush style murders of law enforcement officers increased 300% from 2015 and the highest in ten years, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund; a trend that has remained constant as we suffer the loss of heroes killed in ambush style attacks on what seems to be a weekly basis.

Please join us in extending our thoughts and prayers to law enforcement involved in the manhunt for the shooter, and to the family of fallen hero, Trooper Landon Weaver. We will keep you updated with new information as it is received. Check back for updates on our web site, or on our Facebook page.
