Oklahoma Police Sniper Takes Out Man Holding Baby Hostage
Tulsa, Oklahoma – A police sniper took out a man who was holding a baby hostage with a gun.
At around 11:40 on Monday, a man broke in to his estranged wife’s home while armed with a gun and held a 2-year-old girl hostage for several hours. The woman and her boyfriend were able to escape the house with three other children. The three children who escaped were the suspect’s children. The suspect was not related to the baby girl that was taken hostage.
Police say that the 44-year-old man kept pointing his gun at the baby as well as the officers on scene. Police tried to reason with the man for several hours before making a judgement call that probably saved the baby girl’s life.
At around 3:00 AM Tuesday morning, the man stepped out on to the balcony with the baby in his arms. This might have been the last chance that police had to save the baby, so a SWAT sniper took one shot, killing the man.
If you watch the video below, you can see the man step out onto the balcony holding the little girl. That is when the police sniper fired one shot, eliminating the threat.
The baby was unharmed and was reunited with her family after SWAT cleared the residence and confirmed that the man was no longer a threat.
This is an ongoing investigation, the suspects name has not been released.
There are people who denounce some police equipment as being too militaristic, but situations like this are exactly why police need long range rifles. The officer who took the shot probably saved the baby girl’s life.
