Nassau County, Florida – After a day-long massive manhunt for Royheem Deeds, he was finally captured on a traffic stop on US 1 in Nassau County, Florida.
Officer Tim Smith was murdered by Deeds after he responded to a call at around 9:30 PM on Saturday night for a person walking around in the middle of Main Street while holding a gun. When Officer Smith arrived, he started to speak with the person, who then fatally shot Officer Smith.
Our sources tell use that the dash camera in Officer Smith’s vehicle captured the whole incident, but the existence of the footage and the actually video have not been released to the media.
Officer Smith was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting, but it was not turned on.
The murder of Officer Smith prompted a massive manhunt for Deeds, with officers from all over converging on the area. There was a $15,000 reward offered for information leading to the capture of Deeds. It’s not clear if a tip led to the capture of Royheem Deeds.
Deeds’ motives are still unknown. At this point, we can only speculate that, based on the abnormal nature of the call, Deeds intentionally drew an officer to the area with the purpose of shooting him. The shooting occurred the same night as a massive riot in Milwaukee which was sparked by an officer-involved shooting of an armed black man who was shot with a stolen pistol in-hand.
Officer Tim Smith is survived by three children, Landon, Lander, and Madison and a fiancee.
The capture of Royheem Deeds just occurred, and he is still needs to be interviewed by investigators. We expect a press conference later today which will hopefully provide more information about his capture and his motives for murdering a hero.
