Police Organization Calls Out NFL Commissioner for No Discipline for Adam Pacman Jones’ Latest Police Encounter

Adam “Pacman” Jones Not Disciplined By NFL For Assaulting Officer And Others
One police organization has called out the National Football League (NFL) and questioned why Adam “Pacman” Jones has not been disciplined in his latest encounter with law enforcement.
According to CBS Sports, Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, said this week that he has “zero confidence in Roger Goodell to do anything meaningful as far as punishment.” He also said that “under Goodell, the NFL has stood for Not For Law enforcement. He continuously fails to discipline for disrespecting officers. From Kaepernick’s anti-police socks, to not allowing the Cowboys to honor the fallen officers, to supporting Beyonce’s halftime show. He doesn’t have the moral courage to do the right thing.”
Roger Goodell is the current NFL commissioner and has held the position since 2006. Kaepernick is the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers and wore socks which portrayed cartoon pigs wearing police hats during training camp practices in August. In September, 2016, he also was responsible for starting the disrespect for our flag and anthem, when he refused to stand when the National Anthem was sung at a football game. The NFL’s response? Encouragement for the players to stand but not required.
In an even more confusing set of circumstances, in August 2016, the NFL decided they would not allow the Dallas Cowboys to put decals on their helmets in memory of the fallen five Dallas Police Officers that were murdered in the July 2016 terrorist attack. The reason given? The NFL’s strict rules on uniforms.
Reference Beyonce’s controversy with the NFL, remember the half-time show where she and her dancers marched in formation, wearing Black Panther-like costumes? No NFL response to that, either.
Jones was arrested on January 03, 2017 on misdemeanor Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing Official Business and felony Harassment with a Bodily Substance, after he pushed a man then poked him in the eye, spit on a nurse’s hand, and head-butted a police officer. He is no stranger to the law but has not been in trouble since 2013, when he was charged with assault outside of a bar but later found not guilty.
He has also been charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest in the past, and was involved in an incident in 2007 where he was civilly sued and an $11 million verdict issued against him. That incident occurred after Jones was kicked out of a strip club and resulted in a year-long suspension from the NFL. He is currently playing for the Cincinnati Bengals
Video was released on Monday, January 23, 2017, of the latest incident with Jones. It shows him in the backseat of the police car during his January 3, 2017 arrest, and he is clearly heard telling the police officer that he “hopes he dies tomorrow” among other vulgar and disrespectful comments. Johnson also said “the video is obviously disappointing and vulgar. This is something that law enforcement deals with all the time, but once an athlete or celebrity gets involved, that’s when it becomes newsworthy.” The director said that this is something that law enforcement shouldn’t have to deal with.
Jones’ next hearing is set for February 10, 2017. In a statement released on January 23, 2017, the Bengals said that Jones is sorry and ” has the utmost respect for law enforcement officers.” It also said that Jones would not comment since the matters are pending in court but that he is committed to counseling and anger management.
Hamilton County Prosecutor, Joe Deters, said on January 12, 2017, that he wanted to know what the NFL’s punishment was for Jones before proceeding with his criminal case, according to USA Today. He said he wanted to know what the “normal” punishment was for an NFL player with multiple offenses and a previous suspension. An NFL spokesman said in response that Jones’ case remained under review and that the NFL had no further comment at this time.
It’s interesting that there is no rhyme or reason to the NFL’s actions especially where its top official seems to pick and choose his agendas and his responses. Jones should be severely disciplined for his actions of January 3. He should also learn to apologize himself instead of letting an attorney or someone else do it for him.
