Merced County Deputy Shot When Domestic Violence Suspect Comes Out With Rifle And Opens Fire
Delhi, California – A Merced County Deputy was shot Thursday night after responding to a domestic disturbance.
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a house on Harmony Ranch Drive and Harmony Court in Delhi. As the deputies arrived, Jose Torres, 38, came out of the house with an “assault like” rifle and opened fire on deputies.
The deputies responded by returning fire on Torres, killing him.
During the gunfight, one deputy was shot twice and was listed in critical condition. The latest update said that the deputy survived through surgery.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer involved shooting in Delhi. The suspect is deceased and the Deputy is listed in critical condition. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office remains in our thoughts and we are sending prayers to the Deputy for a quick recovery.
