Drunk Driver Marques Bates Attacked Trooper Alaa Hamed, Then Citizens Rushed-In To Help The Trooper

Marques Bates Fought The Law And The Law Won, With The Help Of Two Heroes
Hammond, Indiana – Marques Bates, a Chicago man who was pulled over Friday night for traffic violations, got more than he bargained for after running from and then fighting an Indiana State trooper.
According to a statement released by the Indiana State Police, Trooper Alaa Hamed initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle operated by Marques Bates after the trooper observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, passing other vehicles and disregarding traffic devices. Bates drove through a red light and stopped in the middle of an intersection before Trooper Hamed pulled up behind him and activated his emergency lights.
When the trooper approached the vehicle, he found Bates in the driver’s seat, an unidentified passenger and noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Bates appeared intoxicated.
After failing a field sobriety test and preliminary breath test, Bates was read the implied consent and became verbally combative with Trooper. He began to resist as Trooper Alaa Hamed attempted to place him under arrest.
Bates broke loose and fled from the trooper through a field. Trooper Hamed pursued and one point during the chase, Bates turned and pushed the trooper. The chase continued throughout the area when finally the trooper was able to tackle Bates, bringing him to the ground. Bates assaulted the trooper, striking him several times as the trooper attempted to place this loser into custody.
That’s when two hero passers-by stepped in. While Trooper Alaa Hamed was being assaulted, these two brave citizens, who haven’t been identified as of this writing, assisted Trooper Hamed in controlling and securing the subject. Trooper Hamed was finally able to place Bates in custody with their help.
Marques Bates, who again became combative during transport to the Lake County Jail, was charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (Level 6 Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor), Operating While Intoxicated Refusal (Class A Misdemeanor) and Operating While Intoxicated Endangering (Class C Misdemeanor).
We’re thankful that Trooper Alaa Hamed was not seriously injured as a result of this attack and we’re equally thankful for the help of the two brave heroes who came to our brother’s aid. It’s good to know that we’re not alone as we strive to protect our communities.
