Hayneville, AL – Lowndes County Deputy Levi Pettway was killed Monday, April 10, 2017 in an on-duty collision.

He was traveling on Alabama 21 Monday morning around 11:53 AM when his 2001 Ford Crown Victoria left the roadway and struck several trees. The cause of the collision is still not clear. “The vehicle did leave the roadway. Troopers are actively investigating the crash and we can’t comment on anything at this time until the crash investigation is complete,” Sergeant Jarrett said..

Deputy Levi Pettway, 61, was a reserve deputy with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years and was assigned to The Calhoun School as the school resource officer.

“Deputy Pettway was an outstanding contributor to the Lowndes County Public School System. He was a valuable team player. He was loved by our students, our teachers and our parents. He will truly be missed,” Lowndes County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Boyd said, according to Lowndes Signal.

“We lost one of our best deputies,” said Chief Deputy Chris West.
