Lake Oswego Armed Robbery Suspect Shot By Police After Pursuit

Lake Oswego, Oregon- A Lake Oswego shooting suspect was shot by police after leading them on a chase that ended in Tigard, Oregon.

No officers were injured in the officer-involved shooting, which occurred early Tuesday morning. The suspect, a male who was not identified by police, was reportedly taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to police a robbery occurred at the Aladdin Inn located at 8905 SW 30th Avenue in Portland. The suspect reportedly fired a gun while robbing a hotel employee of $70 before being seen running out of the hotel towards a gas station. The suspect entered a white van that had a woman and children inside. The suspect then then led police on a chase though Tigard, Tualatin and Lake Oswego while firing shots at pursuing officers and causing multiple crashes. The pursuit ended around Lower Boones Ferry Road and Southwest 63rd Avenue in Lake Oswego where the suspect jumped out of the van with multiple weapons and began running from officers. At some point the police officers fired shots striking the suspect before then placing him in custody.

Police don’t yet know whether there is a connection between the female driving the white van and the suspect, but it was reported by media sources that some witnesses had described the female as the getaway driver.

Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police said, “It’s really remarkable nobody else was injured today besides the suspect.” Police also said the officer involved the Lake Oswego shooting was placed on administrative leave, which is common anytime an officer is involved in a shooting. Police say the officer’s identity will be released at a later date, and that the Washington County (Oregon) Major Crimes Team is leading the investigation.

The Boones Ferry was temporarily closed due to the officer involved shooting, and area Lake Oswego, Oregon schools went into lock-in according to the school district. All roads were later reopened by Tuesday afternoon.

Pat Dooris, a TV reporter with KGW, posted several tweets from the scene in which he reported that Portland Police Chief Mike Marshman praised the efforts and actions of all police agencies involved in the apprehension of this violent criminal.

This officer involved shooting comes days after Modoc County Sheriff deputy was shot and killed in the rural county near the Oregon border. Thankfully this shooting ended without any injuries to any of the many heroes involved in the incident.
