Kyle Rutger Mueller Arrested for Pipe Bombing Cop Car

Thurmont, MD – After Wednesday’s pipe bomb attack on a police car, a suspect was been located and arrested. 22-year-old Kyle Rutger Mueller is now being charged with four counts of possession of a destructive device, two counts of malicious destruction of property, and one count of reckless endangerment.

The incident initially occurred early Wednesday, when a police officer parked his patrol car at his house and went inside. Within 20 minutes, the officer heard a loud explosion. When he and his wife went to check, he found the remnants of a pipe bomb around his damaged vehicle.

In addition to the remnants of the bomb, the police also found a Burger King bag with a receipt nearby. Investigators were able to determine that the debit card used at Burger King was also used to recently purchase black powder.

Investigators were able to obtain security footage from Lowe’s which showed the suspect buying the pipe parts of the bomb.

A witness saw a Toyota Highlander leaving the scene. Just before 8 PM on Friday, officers located the suspect in his Toyota Highlander going through the drive-thru at Burger King. The officers stopped and arrested Mueller. A subsequent search of the vehicle and Mueller’s residence yielded additional evidence.

It’s still unknown why Kyle Rutger Mueller wanted to bomb the police vehicle.
