Second Kroger Employee Refuses Service Over ‘Police Lives Matter’ Shirt

Spring, Texas – The same day that we reported that a police officer was refused service at a Kroger checkout line, a police officer’s wife has now been refused service at another Kroger store after she was wearing a “Police Lives Matter” shirt.

Steven Romo with ABC13 reported that a woman, only identified by her first name as Meredith, went grocery shopping at the Kroger in Spring, Texas. Meredith was wearing a “Police Lives Matter” shirt in the checkout line, and the cashier apparently took offense. Instead of checking her out, the cashier left and talked with a co-worker.

“She was stating that the shirt I had on was basically a slap in the face to her and she was doing everything she could not to cry,” Meredith said.

The clerk never returned, and another cashier came over to finish ringing her up.

ABC13 reported that “Meredith said she complained to Kroger about the conversation multiple times but hasn’t received a response despite promises her concerns would be addressed.” That mirrors Kroger’s response to the police officer who was refused service. They spoke with her and then never responded.

Meredith doesn’t want the cashier to be fired, but she doesn’t think that the store should refuse service to somebody over their shirts.

Meredith said, “It’s important that people in the service industry know that no matter what, if someone walked in with a Black Lives Matter shirt on they needed to still be serviced.”

Kroger has now repeatedly failed in responding appropriately to their employees’ inappropriate behavior. If you would like to complain to Kroger, please contact their corporate office rather than contacting the Spring Kroger directly. The store undoubtedly has many hard-working employees who were not responsible for this incident, and they are not responsible for the company’s failure in handling these incidents.

Please share this story and get to word out that this has happened again, and that Kroger needs to change their response to these incidents.

UPDATE: Kroger has responded.
