Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton Appoints Black Lives Matter Rep To Police Council, Created By Executive Order

St. Paul, Minnesota- Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton issued an executive order forming a 30 member council he named the, “Council on Law Enforcement and Community Relations.”

Due to the council being created under executive order, Governor Dayton handpicked the voting members, as well as the non-voting co-chairs for the council. Governor Dayton, who has repeatedly injected prejudiced comments towards members of law enforcement, opened a huge window of indiscretion for himself by arbitrarily forming this committee.

The governor wasted no time trampling the law enforcement community in this endeavor. He sympathetically appointed a representative of Black Lives Matter, as well as family members of Jamar Clark, and Philando Castile to the council, granting them voting privileges.

Governor Dayton spelled out his biased reasons for creating this police council in the executive order. In one of those reasons he actually blames the ambush assassinations of the police officers in Dallas, Baton Rouge, and Palm Springs as being the source of “aggravation” to the community’s relationship with police. He even failed to identify their murders for what they were, and instead he chose to ambiguously refer to them simply as “deaths,” as if they were just some sort of inconsequential accident.

According to the order, one of the six listed duties of the council is the following:

“Focus on law enforcement- community relations through a lens of procedural and social justice that may impact areas, including, but not limited to: sentencing reform; prosecutorial discretion; law enforcement workforce; law enforcement recruiting and retention; law enforcement training; and community health and wellness.”

Granting Black Lives Matter the authority to create any policy for law enforcement is a terrible idea.

One of Black Lives Matter’s stated goals is the abolishment of law enforcement. It’s an unreasonable expectation to assume that Black Lives Matter will suddenly be the voice of reason and objectivity.

Black Lives Matter has proven time and again that their organizations are void of the ability to reason in logic or facts, yet they are still being empowered by politicians like Governor Dayton.

The fact that a sitting governor is willing to grant this anti-police organization  authority over law enforcement, is nothing more than a politically motivated, and adversarial gesture towards the entire law enforcement community.
