Good Guy With Gun Saves Cop

Hero: Dylan DeBoard used his concealed firearm to save Corporal Michael Wheeler.
Good Guy With Gun, Dylan DeBoard Saves Cop.
Corporal Michael Wheeler of the Mount Vernon Police Department in Ohio was contacting a homeless man last year when the drug-addled man brutally attacked the Corporal. A hero, Dylan DeBoard, was in the right place at the right time to help, and he came packing heat.
On July 25th, the Mount Vernon police department presented DeBoard with an award for saving corporal Wheeler.
Corporal Wheeler described the assault that was launcher by the homeless man last year. The man, who later admitted to being high on crystal meth, knocked Corporal Wheeler to his back and straddled him. The man continued his assault, and knocked away Corporal Wheeler’s microphone and then went for his gun. That’s when Corporal Wheeler looked up and saw a man with a gun.
“I didn’t know if he was pointing at me or [the attacker],” Corporal Wheeler said.
DeBoard announced himself as a concealed pistol holder. That created enough of an opening for Corporal Wheeler to flip the suspect and handcuff him.
“I wish a lot more of society would do what he did,” Corporal Wheeler said, “There were people standing around, but they were just watching. I kept wondering why people didn’t do anything.”
People are not used to dealing with violent encounters, and when they see one, they usually freeze up and they don’t know how to act. In many situations, they just view the incident as though they are just a detached spectator watching the incident unfold on TV. Many are more likely to take a cell phone video, rather than help. Dylan DeBoard isn’t one of those people.
Dylan DeBoard is a hero for having the grit to stand up to a violent criminal, and saving this officer. Great job, hero.
