Glenwood Springs, Colorado – A man was Tased after punching a Garfield County Deputy several times, resulting in over 20 stitches for the officer.
A Garfield County Deputy had to take a trip to the hospital after a fighting an extremely erratic suspect, local Glenwood Spring news agency Post Independent reports. Police received a call that 35 year old Joel Lohmeyer was causing a disturbance at a local Walmart by assaulting and screaming at random people. Lohmeyer left Walmart and went to a local Subway where he called a Mexican man a Muslim and punched him in the neck.
Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson stated that the man told the responding Glenwood Springs Officer and Garfield County Deputy that he was not going down without a fight. The video uploaded to Facebook from a bystander below proves that Lohmeyer wasn’t lying.
In the video, you can see Lohmeyer shouting at the officers before taking his shirt off. Without hesitation, the Glenwood Springs Officer immediately pulls his taser out and fires it at Lohmeyer. Lohmeyer is stunned for a moment, pulls the taser prongs out of his skin, misses his first swing at the Glenwood Springs officer, then lands a solid right punch to the deputy. You can hear someone around the person filming the video say “let’s help the cops”, another replies with “fuck that, that’s what they are paid for.”
The deputy pulls his taser out and Lohmeyer lands another solid punch on the deputy before being Tased again, finally going to the ground. Both officers climb on top of Lohmeyer, who is still resisting arrest, and manage to get cuffs on him.
The Garfield County Deputy who was punched needed over 20 stitches to his brow. Deputy, may you have a speedy recovery. You took it like a champ and kept on fighting, great job.
