This guy started spreading false information in an apparent attempt to incite people to act out against police at the North Dakota pipeline protests.
North Dakota Pipeline Protesters Try To Emulate Black Lives Matter. Tribal Leaders Vow To Push Out Extremists.
Standing Rock, North Dakota – Since the North Dakota pipeline protests have started, false information has been flying all over the internet and there was an outbreak of extreme violence from the protesters. One report of an 11-year-old girl being shot by a police sniper has been proven false. Tribal leaders have vowed to remove these extremists from their camp.
We made a post earlier this week about North Dakota pipeline protesters becoming violent and our Facebook message box blew up. The article was completely unbiased, we simply listed some facts about what’s going on in North Dakota. Protesters were getting violent because some were understandably upset about the pipeline, but became violent towards police as police tried to remove them from public roadways and private property. We were criticized for calling the outbreak of violence “extreme” when people were throwing bombs at police officers; that’s pretty extreme. 141 protesters were arrested in one day last week.
There was one rumor about a police sniper killing an 11-year-old girl spreading like wildfire through social media. It turns out that this was just another false piece of information used to fuel violence against police.
The rumor was started by the native american man in the video below. At around the 18 second mark he states that snipers in the hills shot and killed an 11-year-old girl and killed her. He then says that they Tased an elderly woman in the face and shot a horse. The original video was taken down shortly after being uploaded.
According to the Indigenous Life Movement, one of the largest movements that is supporting the protests against the pipeline, the only life lost so far was an injured horse that had to be put down.
No law enforcement agencies, medical agencies, news agencies, or protesters have stated anything about an 11-year-old being killed by sniper fire. We’re not sure what the man’s motives are in the video, but he’s possibly trying to emulate the success of Black Lives Matter by spreading rumors that are not true.
