ATM Rescue By Police Gets Man Out of Bank Vault

Corpus Christi, Texas – Police did an ATM rescue on a Texas man who got locked inside a bank and alerted customers by slipping a rescue note through the receipt slot, Fox News reported.

The man was a contractor who was called to a local Bank of America to change the lock on the machine, Fox News reported on Thursday. While doing his work, the man was stuck in an ATM room.

The BBC reported that the man was stuck in the drive-thru ATM’s vault. Apparently, customers kept withdrawing money throughout the man’s ordeal. The man spent more than two hours inside the vault, according to the BBC.

The man eventually passed a note that read, “Please help I’m stuck in here and I don’t have my phone please call my boss” and then listed the phone number of his boss.

“He left his phone in his truck, he’s installing a new lock on the door, and he gets locked inside the building where the ATM is,” Corpus Christi Police Officer Richard Olden told KRISTV.

The man had also left his swipe card to get out of the room in his truck, according to The Guardian.

Officer Olden said that customers at first thought the note was a joke. Eventually, instead of calling his boss, a customer took the note seriously and called the police.

Police had to breach the door to the ATM vault to rescue the man.

“We come out here, and sure enough we can hear a little voice coming from the machine,” Olden said. “So we are thinking this is a joke. It’s got to be a joke.”

“Everyone is okay, but you will never see this in your life, that somebody was stuck in the ATM, it was just crazy,” Olden said.

Police didn’t release the name of the man.
