Suspect, Possible Escaped Convict, Wanted In Stabbing Of Columbia SC officer

BREAKING: Columbia SC Officer Stabbed Multiple Times During Arrest

Columbia SC- A female Columbia SC officer was stabbed several times Wednesday night and multiple law enforcement agencies are currently searching for the suspect, who is believed to be a dangerous escaped prisoner.

According to WTVM, police are searching for a white male, slim-built, approximately six feet tall, wearing a black coat, black hat, and black jacket, with light facial hair. Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect.

Columbia Police have since reported that the suspect may be Michael Alan Williamson, who escaped Wednesday from the McCormick Correctional Institute and traveled to Columbia. Williamson was serving a life sentence for armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill.

Police reported that the officer responded to the 1000 block of Bush River Road near the Walmart Super Center at approximately 9:30 p.m. Columbia Police stated via Twitter that that the officer was stabbed and is at a local hospital in stable condition. There is currently an active manhunt for the suspect. 

WTVM reports that the officer was attempting to arrest the suspect for shoplifting inside the Walmart when she was stabbed. As she was questioning the suspect in a back room of the store, he viciously attacked her, stabbing the officer multiple times with a knife. The suspect then ran away with the injured hero in pursuit, even after sustaining several stab wounds. She chased the suspect outside and toward the rear of the store until she was no long able to continue the pursuit due to her injuries.

The unidentified officer was transported to a local hospital and is reported in stable condition.

Multiple agencies including SLED, CPD, Richland County, and Lexington County sheriff’s departments are assisting in the manhunt. SLED has also brought in a helicopter to assist in the search. 

Columbia Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect, believed to be Williamson, and asked that anyone with information are urged to call 911.
