Officer Andrew Holland Injured While Escorting VP Mike Pence

Colorado Springs, CO – Colorado Springs Police Officer Andrew Holland was seriously injured on Saturday morning, June 24, in a motorcycle crash, according to The Denver Post.  He was escorting Vice President Pence’s motorcade at the time.

The incident occurred about 7:45 AM on U.S. 24 near Circle Dr.  The collision only involved the officer’s motorcycle.  Initial reports said that Officer Holland was in critical condition but those reports have been updated with his current condition of serious but stable.  He is a eight-year veteran of the agency, assigned to the motorcycle division.

West-bound U.S. 24 was closed until about 11:45 on Saturday.  According to 9News, Colorado Springs police said that the crash was accidental, and “not caused by deliberate action on anyone’s part.”

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.

The Colorado Springs police also asked for prayers in a tweet:

“Update on our Motor Officer will be made available as soon as appropriate. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

In a tweet, Vice President Pence said:

“Spoke to wife of injured Colorado Springs motorcycle officer. So relieved his injuries not life-threatening. Will keep him in our prayers.”

Vice President Pence had been in Colorado Springs to speak to Focus on the Family on Friday for their 40th anniversary, meet with members of the U.S. Air Force, and attend a conference for Republican Senator Cory Gardner.  He was on his way to the airport when the crash occurred.
