Colin Kaepernick Backs Down From Kneeling Now That He’s Jobless
San Francisco, CA – According to sources close to Colin Kaepernick, he will not continue his refusal to stand during the National Anthem as a free agent in the NFL. He is expected to opt-out of his contract with the San Francisco 49er’s after a 2-14 season.
Colin Kaepernick offended a lot of people when he began the 2016 NFL season refusing to stand for the National Anthem for reasons he said such as police brutality and systemic racism.
When Americans took notice, Kaepernick took the opportunity to say, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
The response to his actions ranged from furious to supportive. People such as President Obama praised the player for “starting the conversation.” Kaepernick continued to show his ignorance when he showed up to a press conference wearing a Fidel Castro t-shirt, whose ideas he said he supported.
The citizens of Miami, which boasts a high Cuban population, greeted the player with deafening boos during their next game against the Dolphins. It didn’t stop Kaepernick however in making statements throughout the season and even wearing the “police are pigs socks” during practice.
During this time, Kaepernick has decided that he will use his fame and fortune to educate people, especially kids, on their rights when dealing with law enforcement. He started a camp called “Know Your Rights” which has met in Oakland and NYC. During one of these sessions you may learn things such as how to handle the arrest of a loved one or how to survive an authoritarian regime.
Now that the 2016 season has wrapped up, the controversial and downright disrespectful athlete will be looking for a new team as a free agent.
According to ESPN the San Francisco 49er’s would have released Kaepernick had he not opted out of his contract. While trying to downplay the drama that comes with his name, he is saying he believes he accomplished his mission during last year’s season and he will now stand during the National Anthem.
