CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Suggests Barcelona ISIS Attack Was Copycat Of Charlottesville White Supremacist
In its coverage of the Thursday’s terrorist attack in Barcelona, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer raised the possibility that the Barcelona terrorist attack may be a copycat of the Charlottesville attack.
At least 13 people have been reported to have been killed in Thursday’s attack in Barcelona after terrorists drove a can through the crowded tourist area of Las Ramblas.
Eyewitnesses told Spanish television that suspects in a van ran over a crowd for nearly 1,000 feet before running into a restaurant and taking hostages.
One of the suspects was eventually taken into custody and another was shot dead. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
The video clip of CNN’s coverage starts with Jim Sciutto talking about how the Charlotteville attack used a vehicle in the similar manner as recent terrorist attacks.
“In light of the uproar of the last couple days, five days apart you have a white supremacist in Charlottesville use a vehicle to kill, and here you have attackers at least following the modus operandi of terrorists using vehicles apparently to kill as well, and those shared tactics should be alarming,” he said.
Wolf Blitzer then went a lot further and suggested that this latest attack may actually be a copycat of Charlottesville, “There will be questions about copycats. There will be questions if what happened in Barcelona was at all a copycat version of what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia.
“Even though there may be different characters, different political ambitions, they used the same killing device: a vehicle going at high speed into a group, a large group of pedestrians.”
ISIS has recently committed numerous terrorist attacks by weaponizing vehicles, and it would be reasonable to suggest that the Charlottesville attack may have been inspired by ISIS tactics, but the Barcelona attack is just more of the same ISIS tactics, not a copycat.
CNN did not yet blamed President Trump for the latest attack in Barcelolna.
