UPDATE: Live Streamed Chicago Kidnapping And Torture Case Will Be Charged As Hate Crime

Chicago–The four individuals responsible for the brutal Chicago kidnapping and assault of a special needs white man, will be charged with a hate crime. The four suspects were arrested after a Live Stream video of the kidnapping was sent to Chicago Police on Tuesday, January 3rd.

According to Chicago Police Department Superintendent, Eddie Johnson, charges have been filed with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office against three 18-year-olds–Jordan Hill, Tesfaye Cooper and Brittany Covinton (Herring)–as well as Tanishia Covington, 24, in the case of the kidnapping and assault. Hill is listed as being a resident of Carpentersville, Illinois, while the others are residents of Chicago. Charges filed include aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, hate crime, and aggravated unlawful restraint. During the two separate Live Streams posted by Brittany Covington (Herring), extreme abuse is captured of a disabled white man. The man had been reported as a high-risk special needs missing person from Crystal Lake, a northwestern suburb of Chicago. We now know that he was the subject of a Chicago kidnapping, after he was found disoriented by CPD officers in the 11th precinct and taken to an area hospital for treatment. After the Live Stream video surfaced, they were able to connect the victim and the four individuals responsible.

Over the last day and a half, many people have expressed outrage at a perceived downplay of such a severe criminal act. Both Chicago Chief Eddie Johnson and Commander Kevin Duffin commented on the incident and reference to it as a case of stupid decisions. “Kids make stupid mistakes, I shouldn’t call them kids, they are legally adults, but they are young adults and they make stupid decisions,” said Commander Kevin Duffin. “That certainly will be part of whether or not we seek a hate crime, determine whether or not this is since or stupid ranting and raving.” We are pleased to see that the law was measured against the vile acts of these criminals.

One other disparity has come by way of main-stream media. Many have voiced their outrage over the racist, evil violence that took place, noting that more people would be outraged if the act coincided with their agenda. During a CNN broadcast covering the incident, Symone Sanders came to the defense of the four individuals responsible in the act by offering reasons for their behavior. Symone said that classifying this act (referring to the Chicago kidnapping, and all the brutal and torturous acts inflicted on this high-risk special needs young man) as a hate crime would be a ‘slippery slope.’ She then continues on to blame white nationalists and how the worst will come out in people when they are told they are the worst part of society. According to Symone, this didn’t happen overnight and we all need to take a hard look at why these kids did what they did. Reasons, she says, could stem from seeing stuff of Twitter from our President-Elect or facing the kinds of issues that blacks face in America. Later in the segment Don Lemon says he doesn’t believe it (the act) was evil, but rather ‘bad home training.’ This was just a bunch of kids being kids according to the liberal-left. Their response to such a clearly racist, vile act is shameful.

Matt Lewis, another anchor, steps in with a clear voice of reason during such an obviously slanted conversation. He offered concern at where the conversation was going in terms of downplaying the acts caught on film with any kind of excuse. Lewis was followed by Peter Beinart, a political analyst who spoke to the true nature of America right now, adding that we are probably more divided than we have ever been.
