St. Louis, Missouri – A car drove through protesters blocking the street during vigil for a transgendered woman who was shot and killed by police after allegedly stabbing a neighbor and then a police officer. (Video below)

Police said the driver of a black Mercedes stopped, honked and attempt to drive around the protesters, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Then the protesters, some of which represented Black Lives Matter, surrounded the car and began hitting it with their hands and flag pole. Three protesters were injured after they intentionally jumped onto the car and fell off when the driver pulled away, according to St. Louis Police Spokeswoman Schron Jackson.

Protesters tell the story of a crazed man who accelerated through them in a Charlottesville-style attack. The video tells a different story.

The transgender protesters were not seriously injured, according to police.

Jackson said the driver was arrested about a block from the incident after refusing to stop for officers. The driver was charged with felony fleeing, according to the New York Daily News.

Keith Rose, a witness and protester, said the driver had his middle finger raised before he accelerated into the group of protesters who were blocking the street. Rose said other drivers had turned off onto side streets to avoid the crowd, who were holding candles as they walked. Police later closed off the intersection and the rally ended shortly after, the newspaper reported.

The rally was to protest the shooting of Kenny Herring, who was shot and killed August 22. Herring was shot after police responded to reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived and found a man who had serious stab wounds to the face, arms and torso.

The stabbed man said it was Herring who attacked him. When police tried to arrest Herring, he stabbed an officer in the arm and two officers opened fire and shot Herring. The injured officer was taken to the hospital and treated and released.
