DEVELOPING: Brookville Officer Shot, One Suspect Down, Another On The Run
UPDATE: The male suspect is in custody.
Brookville, Ohio – An officer was shot along with one suspect during a gun battle. One of the suspects is still on the run.
The incident occurred Monday night when a vehicle fled from Ohio State Highway Patrol on a traffic stop. The vehicle was later reported to 911 to have crashed and multiple callers reported that there was a female running from the scene.
As the officers were looking for the female, there was a gun battle involving two Brookville police officers, the female suspect, and a male suspect. The female suspect was killed in the shooting. The shot police officer was transported to Miami Valley Hospital where he is in surgery. The male suspect was in an SUV and is believed to have opened fire on officers. That male suspect escaped and his vehicle was later located in a pond. There is massive manhunt underway for that suspect.
WHIO reported that Brookville Police Chief Doug Jerome said, “At this time, we don’t have a lot of details other than we have a female deceased who was part of the incident. We’re not sure exactly what has happened and who’s responsible for what at this point because we don’t know about the other vehicle and what part they may have played in this entire situation.”
It’s not clear at this point who fired shots or who shot the officer or the deceased female suspect. This whole situation is a bizarre mess and it will take a while to sort out what happened, why the female suspect was running, and what her relationship was to the male suspect who is believed to have opened fire on the officers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured officer and his family.
