Black Lives Matter Activist Was Planning Terrorist Attack
Zion, IL – Black Lives Matter activist, Edward Schimenti, and his recruit Joseph Jones, both 35, were arrested about 5:00 AM on Wednesday, for providing assistance to ISIS.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, Schimenti, who is also known by Abdul Wali, bragged about watching ISIS videos every night. Witnesses report that he has the Islamic State flag on his phone. And he was caught on tape stating that he wanted to see the “ISIS flag on top of the White House.”
Schimenti had suspicions that the feds might be watching him, but he still recruited Jones, also known as Yusuf Abdulhaqq, to join ISIS with him.
He also provided a collection of cell phones that he hoped would would be used by the terrorist organization as detonators on bombs that would kill 20 people each. His comment is chilling: “I want to see blood flowing, whatever way.”
Both Schimenti and Jones are now in federal custody, charged with conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State.
The criminal complaint against them is 77 pages long, and includes photos of them posing with the Islamic flag at Illinois Beach State Park. Schimenti was also reportedly planning to launch an attack at Naval Station Great Lakes in north Chicago.
What’s even more interesting is their apparent affiliation with the extremist group Black Lives Matter. The chair of the Lake County chapter of Black Lives Matter, Clyde McLemore, said that Schimenti joined a protest outside the Zion Police Department that was organized to protest the April, 2015 officer-involved shooting of Justin Howell.
McLemore said that Schimenti told him that he wanted “to blow up the police department in retaliation,” and the group took the bullhorn away from him.
The federal investigation lasted 19 months, and began when an undercover FBI agent approached Jones at the Zion PD in September, 2015. Jones was at the ZPD for an interview about a murdered friend.
Several agents and a civilian, involved in the investigation, all working undercover, convinced both men that they had gained access to an ISIS network which was designed to smuggle new recruits into Syria.
During the investigation, Jones shared graphic videos to the undercover agents. When Jones was asked if he thought about joining ISIS, he said “night and day.”
Schimenti openly talked about how they could put gay people “on top of Sears Tower” and drop them.
Jones also shared online a 46-page document that ended by saying this:
“When we descend on the streets of London, Paris, and Washington the taste will be far bitterer, because not only will we spill your blood, but we will also demolish your statues, erase your history, and, most painfully, convert your children who will then go on to champion our name and curse of their forefathers.”
