Woman Drove Her Dead Children to Police Station

Elkhart, Indiana – Amber Pasztor drove her dead children to a local police station following an Amber Alert for them.

Police in Elkhart were flagged down at their station Monday afternoon by Amber Pasztor who turned in the murdered bodies of her two young children.

The media was alerted about the incident at approximately noon on Monday when an Amber Alert was issued for the siblings, Liliana Hernandez (7 years old) and Rene Pasztor (6 years old).

Police also asked for help in seeking the whereabouts of Frank Macomber, 65, of Fort Wayne, stating that he may have information regarding the children’s abduction.  Pasztor did not have legal custody of the children.

Early Tuesday morning, Fort Wayne police announced that Mr. Macomber had been located, shot to death in a wooded area on Wallen Road, a location near his Goshen Road trailer park.

The children were in the custody of Macomber at his residence.  It is now believed that Pasztor abducted the children from Macomber’s home and took his vehicle.  Pasztor later drove the children’s deceased bodies nearly an hour a half to the Elkhart Police Department.

Elkhart Police Sgt. Chris Snyder said in a press conference, “[Pasztor] actually approached the officer and stopped and made contact with him.  When [the officer] made contact with that female, she advised him that there were two deceased people in the back seat of her car.”

Police took Pasztor into custody and she was charged with their murders.  Police did not release how the children were killed.

It is unclear at this point what role Frank Macomber played in this terrible tragedy.  Media outlets speculate that he may have been a victim of a planned abduction, or may have been complicit in their murder.  Without knowing details about him and his death, it is unfair to speculate thus far.  Police have not released information to clarify.

Sgt. Snyder did shine light on the emotional trauma responding officers suffer when dealing with cases like this.  Snyder said, ”A lot of it, for the officers, is the way that our portion of this transpired.  Not knowing a lot other than the mere fact there’s a car parked behind our police station and there’s two deceased young kids in there.”

We salute the men and women of the Elkhart Police Department.  These officers, and many others each day, make sacrifices often unseen all in the name of justice.
