VIDEO: Awesome Pursuit Through College Campus Of Wanted Violent Robbery Suspect
Police In Ann Arbor Pursued A Suspect Through University Of Michigan Campus
Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor Police Department and University of Michigan Police Department were captured on video while pursuing a violent robbery suspect.
On Thursday near the University of Michigan, police spotted an 18-year-old who was wanted for a violent robbery from February. When the officers tried to contact the suspect, he fled.
The officers’ primary concern was taking this violent felony suspect into custody before he could escape into a building and harm anybody else.
As officers chased him on foot, several police cars drove down the sidewalks and through the grass with their emergency equipment activated in order to make sure they caught the suspect in time.
Video of the incident shows an Ann Arbor officer try to drive through the grass in order to avoid pedestrians on the sidewalk who completely ignored the officer’s lights and sirens, and stood around like zombies. The after being forced to go off the paved walkway, the officer struck a lightpost, knocking it down.
As the officer continued the pursuit, he dragged the light post under his vehicle.
The suspect was finally Tasered and taken into custody.
Students in the area were shocked by the display of aggression by police officers and had trouble understanding why officers needed to chase the suspect like that.
Aaron Chappel told Fox2, “It was a bit excessive,” he said. “A lot of people were running especially those in the Diag when the police car hit the pole.”
