VIDEO: Why Concealed Carry Is Important – Two New Orleans Tourists Beaten And Robbed On Video
James Curran And Tim Byrne Beaten And Robbed In New Orleans
New Orleans, Louisiana – Two tourists were viciously beaten and robbed Saturday night, leaving one of them hospitalized in critical condition. The unprovoked attack was captured on surveillance footage.
The two victims, James Curran and Tim Byrne, were visiting from Boston and were walking in the French Quarter at around 9 PM Saturday night, when several men ran up behind them and started beating them, according to CBS Boston.
James Curran was beaten in the head and then placed in a chokehold while he was robbed. Tim Byrne was hit from behind, slamming into the ground face-first. Byrne appeared to be knocked out in a pool of his own blood.
Thieves ran up and emptied the pockets of both men before running away. One then returned, picked up Byrne for a moment, apparently checking if he was dead. Seeing the growing pool of blood under Byrne’s limp body, the thief ran off, leaving the man for dead.
“If you look at the video, it seems evident they were attacked from behind, they didn’t see it coming and they did not fight back. They simply were victimized,” New Orleans Police Department Commander Nick Gernon said at a press conference.
The victims were in town for the General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association, a liberal religious association.
No suspects have been identified or located at this time. Anybody who has any information about the suspects is urged to call police immediately.
