Video: Crazed Man With Pipe Beats People at Mall
A crazed man in Denver, CO was captured on video running around and beating people with a pipe at the 16th street mall, Denver’s number one tourist attraction. The incident happened Wednesday night, and was recorded by Caleb Bonham from his office window.
Two days after Denver officials held a press conference regarding new security measures in place at the 16th Street Mall following years of problems, a video surfaced Wednesday night showing another violent incident on what the city says is its No. 1 tourist attraction.
The suspect seen in the video, later identified as 32-year-old Clarence Seeley, was taken into custody for aggravated assault, according to Denver Police. Police are investigating the possibility that Seeley was involved in another assault that happened downtown prior to this one. According to 9Wants To Know, Seeley has been in and out of prison in Indiana.
The incident was reported at 6:07 p.m. by a witness. DPD says officers were on-scene within three minutes. When police arrived on the scene, Seeley dropped the pipe, and officers arrested him without incident. His mugshot will not be released since there are pending photo lineups in this case.
One victim, a 35-year-old man, suffered a head laceration from the assault but refused medical treatment from paramedics.
It’s not clear if it was mental illness or drugs which prompted this random attack. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured.
Police officers are often criticized for having to use force against people who are “just mentally-ill,” which ignores the fact that when police officers are called, the person with mental illness is often at the point where they are violent. In this situation, the suspect surrendered without a fight, but this could have easily turned into a situation where officers may have needed to fight off a brutal assault.
