Trooper Shot In New Orleans Gunfight, Once Suspect Down, Two More On The Loose

New Orleans, Louisiana – A Louisiana State Police trooper was shot during a gunfight that occurred Sunday afternoon. One suspect was killed and two more are still at large.

The incident stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred at 3:30 PM. Officers stopped a stolen vehicle and the three occupants of the vehicle got out and opened fire on officers. The suspects then fled on foot, and one of the suspects again engaged officers in a gunfight, which resulted in the suspect being shot by officers. That suspect subsequently died of from what is believed to be a case of acute lead poisoning.

NOLA.com reported Albert Girard saw an exchange of gunfire, followed by a chase through backyards, followed by more gunfire.

“I saw the policemen chase them,” Girard said. “It was a rolling gun battle.”

The other two suspects have not been publicly identified and are still on the loose.

The unidentified trooper was shot in the arm and he has a bullet lodged in his elbow. He is in stable condition and currently hospitalized for his bullet-wound.

New Orleans PD and Louisiana State Police were on scene during the gunfight, and there is dashboard and body camera footage of the incident, which had not yet been released to the public.

FBI, New Orleans PD patrol officers and SWAT, and Louisiana State police all responded and began a massive manhunt for the two suspects. At the time of this writing, both suspects are still at large.
