Prisoner Ejected After Jonesboro Police Patrol Car Wrecks
Jonesboro, Arkansas – A Jonesboro Police Officer and his prisoner were injured Friday after his patrol car rolled over while en-route to jail. The officer involved is Justin Thompson with the Jonesboro Police Department.
Watch the wreck below
Logan Younger, the 19 year old in custody, fled the scene after being ejected through the back windshield:
From what the video shows, it appears as though Younger slipped out of his handcuffs and retrieved a silver cigarette lighter then tried to light something in the back on fire.
A probable cause of the wreck could have been the officer being distracted by the idiot in his back seat trying to set the car on fire.
“It appeared to have distracted [Thompson],” Chief Rick Elliott said. “He turned his head back to see what Younger was doing and veered to the left. He overcompensated and lost control.”
KAIT8 News reported that the young man was arrested after causing a drunken disturbance at a local shopping mall. One Facebook user commented that she saw him harassing mall workers:
Officer Justin Thompson was flown to a Memphis hospital. Local reports state that he was conscious and talking. Younger was apprehended and taken to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Thompson.
