Officer Murdered In Polk County, Georgia
Polk County, GA – An officer was murdered in a shooting and another officer was also shot in the area of Santa Claus Road and Highway 100 between Cedartown and Cave Spring, according to the Polk County Standard Journal.
The incident happened on Friday at around 11 AM during an incident involving a stolen vehicle report.
One of the responding officers was fatally shot, and the second officer was hit in their ballistic vest.
It’s not clear at this time what agency the officers were with, and they have not been identified, pending next of kin notifications.
A female suspect has been taken into custody but a male “wearing a backpack” is still on the loose.
“The Cavalry has been called out for sure,” said Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Standard Journal.
A manhunt is now underway for the shooter. At least nine officers from Flyd County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the manhunt.
Highway 100 has been shut down in the area.
The only suspect description at this time is a white male with a backpack. Anybody who sees a suspicious person in the area should call 911 immediately.
