New Mexico Officer Shot; Suspect Barricaded

Original Story: A high speed chase left a New Mexico officer shot and the suspect barricaded in in Las Cruces, NM. ABC-7’s mobile news room was following the chase, listening in on radio exchanges. Police closed exits along I-25 during the chase.

The fleeing suspect got off the highway at Rincon and got back on the highway at 185 between Las Cruces and Hatch. Shortly after there were reports of emergency crews responding to a Hatch Police Officer Shot. The suspect is reportedly inside a home and barricaded. Law enforcement is on scene and are trying to get the suspect out of the house.

Update: The Hatch Police Officer who was shot is in “good” condition according to Hatch Mayor Andy Nunez. Sun-News has not been able to confirm the officer’s identity. Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, which is overseeing the investigation reported that one suspect was taken into custody before 5:30 p.m. They have not released the suspect’s name.
