Records Technician Rachael Parker Murdered
Las Vegas, NV – Manhattan Beach Police Department Records Technician Rachael Parker, age 33, was murdered during the Las Vegas mass shooting on Sunday night, October 1.
Parker was at the Jason Aldean concert, which was part of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
She was among the 60 victims that shooter Steven Paddock murdered from his Mandalay Bay Resort suite.
Parker had worked for the Manhattan Beach Police Department as a records tech for the past ten years.
She was at the concert along with three other MBPD employees, but they were not in the same location. Those employees included Police Officer Chad Benson, who received minor injuries from a bullet fragment. and who stayed behind to help with putting tourniquets on victims and assist them to safety.
Her friend, Arlene Richardson, said that she was in Las Vegas to visit a friend. She said that Parker loved dogs, and had recently adopted two Rottweiler puppies.
She was originally from Spokane, and graduated from Cheney High School in Cheney, Washington.
Parker’s mother, Robin Monter, flew to Las Vegas as soon as she heard about her daughter. She said her daughter was “brilliant and had a heart of gold.” She said that her daughter also volunteered with the homeless and the elderly.
Manhattan Beach Police Captain Tim Hageman said, “I just remember honestly that whenever I walked by she took the time to look my way, wave and smile. And that wasn’t just for me, that was for everybody. She was that kind of person.”
Manhattan Beach Police Chief Eve Irvine said that Parker had her bachelor’s degree in social work, and had a passion for helping older adults. Chief Irvine said that she loved to cook, and loved country music.
She said, “This was an unbelievably horrible event, so senseless and so unnecessary. We are never going to forget her,” according to TBR News.
In a statement, the Manhattan Beach Police Department said, “Rachael Parker, a Manhattan Beach Police Records Technician, was shot and ultimately lost her life in the hospital. She was employed with the Manhattan Beach Police Department for 10 years and will be greatly missed.”
