Jefferson Parish Deputy Nicholas Songy Shot
BREAKING: Jefferson Parish Deputy Nicholas Songy Shot
Metaire, LA – Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Songy was shot on Saturday while responding to a domestic dispute call.
Deputy Nicholas Songy, 48, arrived on scene of a domestic disturbance and the woman involved told him that the suspect had left. Deputy Songy checked the backyard and was shot by the male suspect. The deputy returned fire, hitting the male. The man fled and Deputy Songy retreated.
Responding officers set up a perimeter in the area and started a K9 track of the man’s blood trail. The K9 tracked to a nearby house where officers confronted the suspect and ordered him to drop his weapon. The suspect raised his weapon to police and was shot dead.
Deputy Songy is at University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries for a shot to the thigh.
Our hero law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect their communities. Officer Jake Gutierrez was murdered just two days ago while responding to a domestic disturbance. We are thankful that today ended with the would-be killer being the only one to die.
We wish Deputy Nicholas Songy a speedy recovery.
