Indiana Conservation Officer In Fight For His Life Is Saved By Armed Woman Who Kills Suspect, Justin Holland
Indiana State Conservation Officer Saved In Fight With Justin Holland
Ohio County, Indiana – A female bystander shot and killed a suspect, Justin Holland, who was attacking an Indiana Conservation Officer in Indiana Monday.
Around 12:20 PM an unidentified Conservation Officer responded to a county dispatch of a suspicious person and vehicle in the 8300 block of State Route 56, between Rising Sun and Aberdeen. When the officer approached, he encountered Justin Holland, 32, of Moores Hill. Details aren’t clear what happened from there, but the Conservation Officer and Holland ended up in a full-on fight.
According to Sergeant Stephen Wheeles, “At some point during their interaction, Holland began to resist the officer and became involved in a physical altercation with the officer.” Thankfully, a hero was nearby and stepped in to assist the conservation officer in a time of need. “A female who was at a nearby residence responded to assist the officer who was being overtaken by Holland, Wheeles said.
The woman who came to officer’s aid fired a single shot from her personal firearm and struck Holland in the torso, according to FOX 19.
Witnesses immediately began rendering first aid to Hollands. He was transported to Dearborn County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The exact cause of death has not been released.
“At this point, we want to stress that we don’t know what the cause of death is,” Wheeles said. “(We don’t know) whether the gunshot wound was the cause of death or if there was something else at play.”
Indiana State Police are still investigating what led up to the altercation.
The officer was injured during the altercation and taken to the hospital for treatment.
