Halifax PD Makes Traffic Stops Which Put Smiles on People’s Faces
Halifax PD Makes Traffic Stops Which Put Smiles on People’s Faces.
Halifax Police Department was looking for a way to increase outreach in their community when they came up with the idea of reaching people through traffic stops. However, instead of passing out tickets, they decided to pass out ice cream.
Chief Kevin Lands posted a video of one stop which has been viewed millions of times. We counted the views on some of the copies of this video, in addition to the original video, and we counted over 8 million views:
Chief Lands and Officer Brian Warner stopped a car, with ice cream at the ready.
“Are you aware of why I pulled you over today?” Officer Warner asks, “Are you familiar with vehicle code 1739?”
You can see in the video that the driver looked concerned.
“It’s actually against the law to drive on a hot day without an ice cream cone.”
Chief Lands and Officer Warner then presented the happy couple with their ice cream cones.
When writing this article, we originally joked about how the public criticized law enforcement, and we were shocked to learn that there actually were a lot of people criticizing Chief Lands for bringing smiles to people’s faces with free ice cream. We don’t want to muddy this happy article with their negativity though. We think that Chief Lands is doing a great job.
Halifax PD, keep up the great work! The haters can go plug their mouths with frozen dairy treats.
