Detroit Officer And Robber Both Shot In Gunfight, Then Thief Steals Their Guns Because: Detroit
Detroit Officer’s Gun Stolen After Gunfight That Left Him In Critical Condition
Detroit, MI – A Detroit police officer was critically injured in a gunfight with an armed robber, and while both lay dying, a thief stole their guns.
The incident happened Sunday night at around 11 PM outside of Motor City Liquor.
The unidentified 27-year-old Detroit police officer had just finished his shift and was in plainclothes as he exited the party store, according to Detroit Free Press.
Surveillance video shows a robber run towards the officer with a gun extended. The officer drew his duty weapon and engaged the suspect in a gunfight.
At the end of the gunfight, the officer lay critically wounded with gunshot wounds to his torso and foot. The suspect was mortally wounded in the gunfight.
While both the officer and suspect were down, a man pulled up in a black sedan and took the guns from from the suspect and officer before leaving.
“The fact that this individual, instead of trying to render aid, they basically approached the downed suspect, and my sense is that there is a relationship with this suspect that was down and this person,” Craig said.
“He was in no hurry to leave that scene,” Craig said. “He made no effort to help the suspect who was shot or the officer.”
The thief is described as a black male, 5’9″ – 5’11”, wearing “sporting clothes.”
The injured officer is hospitalized in critical condition. He was conscious and alert and told Chief James Craig that he wanted to become a motorcycle officer.
“We’re going to work hard to get him that motorcycle,” Craig said.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured officer while he recovers.
