Davis Police Officers Attacked By Mob At UC Davis Picnic Day

Davis, CA – Three Davis Police officers found themselves surrounded and being beaten by a hostile mob during the Picnic Day celebration at UC Davis.

On Saturday at around 3:30 PM, three officers were traveling in an unmarked patrol car on Russell Boulevard when they encountered a large group of people blocking the roadway. One officer was in full uniform while the two other officers were in plain clothes with their badges and weapons visible.

The group was causing traffic to be gridlocked by blocking the roadway, so the officers stopped to ask them to move.

A hostile mob surrounded the car and started yelling threats at the officers, and one person motioned like he was pulling a gun.

Two officers exited the car to identify themselves as police, and were immediately attacked by the crowd and beaten to the ground. While the officers were on the ground, they were kicked and punched in the head and beaten with a bottle.

As the officers were being beaten, they saw other people in the crowd taking video of the beating.

The officers fought back and called for help, and three suspects were taken into custody.

One officer suffered injuries to his eye and face while another had a bleeding head wound. They were transported to Sutter Davis Hospital for treatment.

The suspects who were arrested include Alexander Craver, 22, who is being charged with aggravated battery, assault on a peace officer, felony obstruction of a peace officer, and assault with a deadly weapon; Antwoine Perry, 22, who is being charged with aggravated battery and felony obstruction of a peace officer; and Elijah James Williams, 19, who is being charged with assault on a peace officer, aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and felony obstruction of a peace officer.

The Davis police officers aren’t the only ones who encountered violence at the picnic day celebrations. A woman had her car stomped on and damaged while people took video to post to twitter, while another person had a loaded gun pulled on them; that suspect was arrest by police.

Davis Police department is requesting that people keep an eye out for the cell phone videos of the attack.
