Chicago Heroes Take Over 100 Thugs Off The Street In 36 Hours

Chicago Police Department conducted a series of raids targeting criminal street gangs, and in the past 36 hours they arrested 101 thugs committing felonies in the most violent neighborhoods in the city.

The raids began before dawn on Thursday, and they aren’t done yet. The raids have been planned for the past six weeks, and they target criminal gangs who deal drugs and commit crimes with firearms.

Deputy Chief Anthony Riccio said, “What we try to do is target the worst areas and some of the busiest districts and take down some of the gang members who were operating in those districts and driving the violence,”

Officers plan on arresting another 100 felons in the coming week.

“The route we took is attacking them through the sale of narcotics,” Deputy Chief Riccio said. “Narcotics is what funds these gangs. It funds the operation. It provides them with money to buy the guns that are used to shoot at rival gang members and, in some cases . . . to shoot at police officers.”

These raids are picking up at a time when the violence in Chicago is at its highest since the 1990s.

“The results of this initiative put front and center the facts that I’ve been saying for some time now,” Superintendent Eddie Johnson said during a press conference Friday. “That there’s a small subset of the population that cycles through the criminal justice system to repeat the same crimes and drive the violence in some of our neighborhoods.”

“These offenders and street gangs, they’re often associated with don’t care about innocent children playing on the street,” Superintendent Johnson continued. ” They don’t care about the neighborhoods that are trying to avoid these conflicts. They don’t care about the families who are left behind in the wake of their actions to grieve the loss of a child or a brother or sister.”

The hard work of these heroes is going to make their communities a safer place. Great job warriors.
