Hero Down: Canonsburg Officer Scott Bashioum Murdered In Ambush

Canonsburg, Pennsylvania – Canonsburg Police Officer Scott Bashioum was murdered and another officer wounded after the two were ambushed early Thursday morning while responding to a domestic call. During an early morning press conference, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Melinda Bonderanka told reporters that the officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at 3:14 AM and were ”immediately fired upon when they arrived.”

Law enforcement from local, state, and federal agencies rushed to the scene to search for the shooter. After six hours, the shooter was discovered dead along with a woman reported to be his girlfriend. KDKA reports that the woman was pregnant.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the officers were transported to Canonsburg Hospital. County coroner Tim Warco identified 52-year-old Officer Scott Leslie Bashioum as the fallen hero. He was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m.

The other wounded officer was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment in its trauma unit. Trooper Bonderanka told reporters at a subsequent press conference that the injured officer was out of surgery and thankfully, in stable condition.

Neighbor Keith Jacob told the Post Gazette that he lives two doors down from where the shooting took place and heard gunshots this morning. “That’s what woke me up. Then I thought I heard someone say ‘My partner’s down’, ” he said.

He said the couple who lived where the shooting occurred had a history of domestic issues. “She has had a [protection from abuse order] against him … there have been back and forth disputes going on,” said Jacob

At around 9:40 AM, a sad and solemn possession of police cars and motorcycle units from the Pittsburgh and Washington County areas escorted the fallen heroes body from Canonsburg Hospital to the coroner’s office at Washington Hospital.

At the 11:15 press conference, Canonsburg Mayor David Rhome told reporters, “We’ve lost a friend and a comrade. Our hearts go out to his family and those in blue.”

Canonsburg Police Chief Alex Coghill described Officer Bashioum as a great guy. “He was a loving husband, a loving father. One of those guys who were always there for you.”

District Judge David Mark, of Canonsburg, told the Post Gazette the he knew that fallen officer and his family well. “He is a great guy, top to bottom. One of the best people I know inside and out,” he said. “I can’t imagine what the family is going through.”

Canonsburg Police Officer Scott Bashioum, 52, husband, father and hero, ambushed in the line of duty, made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his community.

Officer Scott Bashioum, your life mattered.

2 cops and a pregnant woman killed by Michael Clikwinski another white murderous cop killing scumbag. 3 cops killed by white men since Trump got elected. I thought whites were happy they got their guy in the WhiteHouse. Instead ,you’re rioting and killing cops.

The real question is, how will Donald Trump stop angry, gun-toting WHITE MEN from killing police officers?

    • Aaron Burr

Nice that you single out a demographic. It’s more like gun-toting American men. It’s a problem that isn’t race specific but of course some people always make things about race which many are getting sick and tired of

I don’t agree with your vague statement of whenever something not good happens. 9/11 was not good but nobody blamed blacks. There is a huge list of things that have happened that are not good and blacks were never mentioned in connection. This article is not good but nobody has placed the blame on blacks for this.

Oh right. Never black men committing those crimes. ???

I’m really hurt with all the racist comments……why does it always have to be racist when a cop gets killed….it doesn’t matter what the race is or what the race is of the shooter…..#ALLLIVESMATTER No people these shootings have NOTHING to do with Trump getting elected…..has NOTHING to do with race……its ignorant people like the ones screaming race this and race that..y’all are the ones making or trying to make them a race crime…….its not race.its fact that there is so much EVIL in this world……so instead of trying to get be started by hollaring race crimes….try being respectful and show some compassion…..sorry but just so ya know there are black cops that shoot white people…there are black people that shoot back cops……but guess what….hmmmm wonder why those don’t make the news…..now who is being racist…….the more the pot get stirred up the more this will happen but not all shootings are race related…
