$20k Reward For Five Suspects Who Shot Cop Today

UPDATE: The suspects are in custody!

An Atlantic City police officer was shot early Saturday morning after he stopped a group of men who were engaging in illegal activity. Now, a $20,000 reward is being offered for the five suspects who escaped after shooting the hero.

The suspects opened fire on officers as they exited their vehicle, the police officers fired back. The suspects all ran in different directions. One of the suspects was located a short time later collapsed and bleeding from gunshot wounds. The suspect died on scene. The other five suspects successfully evaded capture and are still on the run.

The hero officer who was shot is in critical condition and fighting for his life.

The Atlantic City Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement:

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and assisting law enforcement agencies, continue the investigation of the police-involved shooting that occurred early this morning in Atlantic City, and resulted in the death of one man, and the critical injury and hospitalization of an Atlantic City Police Officer, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

On Saturday, September 3, 1016 at 2:34 a.m., two uniformed Atlantic City police officers exited their patrol vehicle to approach a group of individuals engaged in criminal activity. One officer was shot and injured as he exited the vehicle. The second officer returned fire and struck at least one of the suspects. The suspects fled in different directions, with one suspect hit. That suspect was located about 1½ blocks away on Missouri and Pacific Avenues, collapsed and deceased. Five suspects and/or persons of interest are still at large.

The injured officer is out of surgery and remains in critical condition.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation of the officer-involved shooting and coordinating the search for the fugitive suspects with the assistance of the Atlantic City Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, the FBI, and the Pleasantville, Galloway, and Hammonton Police Departments.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Accompanying this press release is a short video taken in Atlantic City at approximately 2:26 a.m. Depicted in the video are two groups of three men who walk toward and past the camera.

Law enforcement is seeking information regarding the identities of the six men.

The first group appears to be 3 black males wearing, from left to right: a white shirt, a light-colored shirt, and a dark shirt—the man in the dark shirt appears to be taller than the other two men.

The second group appears to be 3 black males, the one to the right wearing a dark sweatshirt with the words “Atlantic City” on the front, the other two men wearing baseball hats.

Anyone with information about the identities of these men, or about this incident, is urged to call the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at (609) 909-7666, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-658-TIPS (8477), the anonymous (confidential) tip line 652-1234, or text TIPCOP plus your tip to 274637. The New Jersey COP SHOT Program has posted a reward $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for shooting the officer.

What about the two women who also walked past the cops, they obviously live in that area and might be able to help I’d these men.
